Work Can Be Frustrating

Dear kid,
Please don't sing the spongebob squarepants theme song while I'm supposed to be preserving your life.

In my last blog post I shared a link to a discourse about moral discipline. Today at work I started to get really worried about our society. Can you really not obey the rules of a community pool? People seem to have no respect for anything. These kids are going to be monsters and the sad thing is it isn't only the kids. Many of the adults that come to the pool also need to grow up. I should probably move to Idaho or something.

Sometimes I don't think people at the pool realize that lifeguards here everything you say as hard as we try not to.

Today a co-worker found a pacifier in the pool skimmer. I wore it on my whistle all day. A lady asked me for a band-aid and made a comment about how people use pacifiers to do drugs. In that statement it seemed like she was implying that I did drugs. I told her where she could get a band-aid.

Last but not least: Dear co-workers,
After spending the whole day asking patrons to watch their language, I expect you to do the same. I hope that isn't to much to ask.

Braces are a pain in the butt...

...if they have been installed incorrectly.

Today I had the opportunity to baptize my little sister. I have authority to do so. If anyone who reads this would like to be baptized, let me know. Baptism is so simple yet so beautiful and is the gate that leads to eternal life. You might think that sounds crazy, but you can cone to know it just as well as I do.

I enjoy talking with my parents when they aren't totally stressed out. It doesn't happen that often but I think that it makes my whole week worthwhile.

I have a friend who just came into town. I feel like being at home and being in college are two different worlds. I feel like my freshman year at BYU was more of a dream I had then anything. She made it all real again. I did go to school there, and I'm super excited to get back.

At work today I had one of those moments where you look around and think about how we're all connected in the big human family. I enjoyed that moment because it helped me be a lot more patient with one of my co-workers the rest of the day.

I hope that writing on my blog again helps me to feel less stressed. Also, I finished reading The Hunger Games. The other day when it was 99 degrees and I honestly had the thought: what I wouldn't give to be in the hunger games right now.

I read a talk today that I really liked. I'd like to share an excerpt with yall.

"The societies in which many of us live have for more than a generation failed to foster moral discipline. They have taught that truth is relative and that everyone decides for himself or herself what is right. Concepts such as sin and wrong have been condemned as “value judgments.” As the Lord describes it, “Every man walketh in his own way, and after the image of his own god” (D&C 1:16).

As a consequence, self-discipline has eroded and societies are left to try to maintain order and civility by compulsion. The lack of internal control by individuals breeds external control by governments. One columnist observed that “gentlemanly behavior [for example, once] protected women from coarse behavior. Today, we expect sexual harassment laws to restrain coarse behavior. …

“Policemen and laws can never replace customs, traditions and moral values as a means for regulating human behavior. At best, the police and criminal justice system are the last desperate line of defense for a civilized society. Our increased reliance on laws to regulate behavior is a measure of how uncivilized we’ve become.” 2"

I have tried to be a gentleman. I feel like it's a dying breed. That sounds weird... Anyway, I just wanted to say that their are some guys who hang out with one of my sisters that are genuinely good guys. I'm glad she has good taste in guy friends because I'm pretty sure I'll never have to beat them up for doing something stupid.

Anyway, I really like this section of the talk. Hope things have been well for y'all. Does anyone I know use blogger anymore?

Thus begins the B^2 again.
